The big advantage of the Panasonic Cordless NI-L46NR Iron is obvious – you don't have to deal with a cord. In fact, many owners say they will never go back to corded ironing again. The iron does, however, have to be reheated on its base often, and consumers admit that this can be an annoyance, but most say that the convenience outweighs the frustration. The iron also boasts a detachable water tank, making it easy to refill. Most consumers at Amazon.com are quite pleased with the amount of steam that the iron produces. A few, however, point out that it only has six steam vents, which pales in comparison with other irons like the top-rated Rowenta Advancer DZ9080, which has 400 vents.

Unlike many electric shavers, the Panasonic Vortex HydraClean ES8109S foil shaver can be used dry or wet with shaving cream or lotion, as well as in the shower. The Panasonic ES8109S shaver includes a cleaning/charging base that uses a special cleaning solution to wash and dry the shaver, and it also has a five-minute quick-charge feature. Features include a pivoting head with a selector that adjusts the amount of pivot to the user's preference. On the downside, some say the cleaning cycle takes a while and can be loud, and cleaning cartridges last for a month and cost about $5 each. Panasonic offers a 30-day money-back guarantee and a one-year warranty. If you don't want to spend as much, the Remington MicroScreen MS2-390 (*Est. $55) is rated as performing nearly as well as more expensive electric shavers, but it is strictly for dry shaving.
ConsumerReports.org tests the Panasonic Vortex ES8109S shaver in a review and compares it to 16 other foil and rotary shavers. 3Luxe.com doesn't report on the ES8109S, but it includes its immediate and very similar predecessor -- the ES8077S -- in its list of the three best electric shavers for men.

MiniDisc players have been almost entirely eclipsed by MP3 players, but according to experts, MiniDisc recorders are much better than MP3 players for making live recordings of concerts and lectures. Sony offers just one portable model, the Sony MZ-RH1, which reviewers say is an excellent recording machine. This model records on 1GB Hi-MD discs (*est. $7 apiece), which can hold up to 45 hours of compressed music and can be re-recorded thousands of times. Reviewers say the SonicStage software required for player-to-PC transfers has some quirks, but is improved over earlier versions, and Mac-compatible software is now available as well. Furthermore, Sony has removed most of its restrictions on uploading recordings, so you can use the MZ-RH1 to transfer content of older MiniDiscs to a computer. If you're looking for a cheaper, non-portable MiniDisc recorder, owners also like the Sony MDS-JE480 (*est. $135).
